Luna, Attack Cat

In the past month, my husband and I have noticed a new and unexpected behaviour in our cat, Luna.

It seems that she has appointed herself my champion. On a couple of occasions now, our dog has been laying at our feet, quietly minding her own business while we watch a movie together. Luna can be found perched on the back of a sofa chair, snoozing.

All good, so far.

However, if I let out a yelp in response to something that startles me on the tv, Luna, our normally affectionate, loving feline, launches herself off the chair and attacks Willow like a furious creature from hell.

Poor Willow, soft marshmallow and all 'round people-pleaser that she is, is all wild eyes and wiggling backside, totally confused and left to wonder what in blue blazes just happened. It continues to happen for a while, until Luna calms down.

Luna has always been the alpha here, but this is something new. Understandably, Willow has become quite wary of Luna. Luna, on the other hand, is like "'Sup, dawg?"

Never a dull moment.

Luna, Superhero

It sounds quite normal for cats. It is considered to be 'displaced anger or excitement'. This can happen when two cats are standing close and one gets excited by something it is known to attack the other cat without warning. Sounds similar.

Wow! See, now if Willow got aggressive with Luna, Luna would stop that behavior. Just sayin. Cheers!!

How can such a sweet kitty be anything but an angel. ;)

Debra: Only at dinner time. ;o)

Karin: She thinks so. *grin*

Deb: I suppose you're right. She probably just gets startled and poor Willow gets blamed.

Bobby: Not gonna happen. Luna is the alpha around here. She 'raised' Willow from a puppy and her word is law.

Catherine: Most of the time she is, which is why it's so strange.
