Last Sunday began much like any other. Until I got a text message from our friends in town, with a photo of the kitten they'd found the night before.
Cuter than cute, am I right? When she told me they were going to take it to the animal shelter later that day, it didn't take long for The Frenchman to agree that we should give her a home with us instead.
We're hoping she wants to be a Mouser when she grows up. In fact, we're only assuming she's a She, at this point. We have yet to have her examined by our vet. She's very young and tiny, yet she's already displaying a spunky tomboy personality.
Our dog, Willow, took to her immediately and is doing her level best to cover her in dog spit. Oddly enough, the cat seems to enjoy it and actually leans in so Willow can get behind her ears. Our cat, Luna, is another story altogether. So far, there's been a lot of deep throated growling and spitting. I'm sure Luna will come around in time and we're giving her lots of love and affection so she knows she's not being replaced.
We're not sure of the kitten's history, other than that our friends found her behind a shop they're building out beside the railroad tracks. It was getting dark and cold, and the trains were rumbling by, blowing their loud horns. It must have been a bewildering and terrifying experience for her. She was deep in the tall grass and had been crying for so long and so loud she'd all but lost her voice. I don't know how she wound up in her predicament, but I have my suspicions. She ate two big meals when we got her home, played some and then fell asleep for 7 hours, ready for another meal in the morning. We suspect she'd gone without food or drink for a minimum of 24 hours before she was rescued.
I don't want our two to think that all the fun has stopped now that this kitten has arrived, so we embarked on our morning stroll this morning, as usual. I bundled the kitten up in a makeshift papoose, where she promptly fell asleep and off the four of us went to explore - even Luna.
She's a brave little thing, curious and energetic. We may yet refer to her as Destructo, but officially, she will be known as Teddy Pinkleton. We think it suits her.

I'm a Superficial Dabbler - I know a little bit about a lot of things and I'm an expert at none of them. I’m a city girl with a country soul, a curious nature, and a very short attention span. I believe that animals are angels wrapped in fur, come down from heaven to model unconditional love. I'm also profoundly blessed to be married to the man I prayed for and God provided.
I have decided not to display the awards that I receive. If you like my blog, leave me a comment. I read and appreciate them all. It's the connection with the friends I make here that I treasure the most.
